Subject: [ICOM] Wireless headphone for Icom radios
About 2 years ago several of us on the Icom list experimented with a
wireless boom headset we interfaced to our Icom radios that had 8 pin
microphone connectors. The headset we bought was made by IBM and was
basically a wireless telephone headset that worked at 900 Mz. The cool
thing about these headsets was they had two 1/8" audio jacks on the
console that were intended to plug into a computer sound card. You can
either select telephone or output to the audio jacks. These phones came
out at the very beginning of IP telephony. The bottom line is that
someone came up with the idea of making up a cable to interface this
telephone system to the mic jack of our radios as both headset audio and
transmit audio are available there. Using the VOX control on the radio
made the IBM wireless telephone a wireless headset for any Icom radio
with an 8 pin mic connector.
The reason I'm telling you this is I am no longer using the one I set up
for myself. The rechargeable batteries need to be replaced but other
than that it's in good condition. I'll ship to your QTH in the conus for
$50 including the cable wired for 8 pin Icom radios. I think I also have
the original box and the instruction manual that came with the IBM
telephone. BTW the range seems to be about 100 feet enough to cover most
homes I would think.
If anyone is interested please contact me off list.
