[ICOM] DSP??

You might think so.....But just try to buy a ICOM with state of the
art DSP for less than $4000.

And, try to ask ICOM a technical question regarding their DSP unit,
or to report a bug::>

The HPDSR code will be 24 bit (not 16 bit), it will run in generic
FPGA chips and it is open source'd, meaning anyone can write
enhancements for it or do customization for non standard modes.... It
will be amateur radio built by amateurs FOR AMATEURS.

ICOM?? NAH......

The 30 dollar (single band, qrp) softrock transceiver kit outperforms
all but the very best Japanese HF transceivers although it
(currently) requires a PC for processing the audio. When HPDSR is
available, you will see single band self contained transceivers
available for well under $100 each, with receivers that will put the
Japanese big 3 to shame:>: The HPDSR is a joint development project
undertaken for hams and by hams! It doesn't have the backing of ICOM
BUX....so it will be slower to be developed. Nuff said.

If anyone wants to see a sample of self contained DSP hardware that
is available today, you can look at the stand alone receiver using
QSD technology at:

http://www.amqrp.org/kits/sdr908/index.html

But seriously, it's OT to go into it on the list, and I'd like to
respect that boundary if at all possible.

The gentleman merely asked for a few pointers so he could learn a
little about DSP, and I answered his question.

Enjoy.
