Great idea, Dan. In addition to my 703 and 706, I've got several hybrid
rigs. I've found that the solid state components are much more difficult
to find than the tubes. Seems like obsolescence moves faster in the
transistor/IC world. So far, I haven't had any problems with either of
my Icoms, but being a boy scout, I'd much rather be prepared for
Murphy's Law being enacted. Turning my 706 into a "parts rig" is not an
attractive idea.
Maybe if replacing individual transistors turns out not to be a viable
solution, a custom replacement PA board might be the ticket. Put
together a kit, perhaps, and share the component procurements costs
among us 706 owners?
