[ICOM] What is wrong with SMA?

Steel SMAs and BNCs are both rated for 500 matings, while brass SMAs are
rated for 100 matings (Amphenol). Actual life should be longer as these are
for repeated matings which do not let the contacts fully recover from the
previous matings. That indicates they should perform similarly. My issue
with SMA is that to attach an antenna, the male center pin spins in the
female contact as the antenna screws on, instead of just being drawn in as
the shell of the connector screws on as with a conventional SMA. I would
suspect this would prematurely wear the SMA. I have no proof of this, but I
do know the BNC does not spin the center when it attaches.

Also, with regard to the "reverse" connectors, they are not standard. Some
reverse the male and female parts while some reverse the direction of the
threads.-Mike, WV2ZOW
