Happy New Year to the list.

Throughout the years I have owned and presently own a substantial number
of ICOM transceivers. My only disappointment has been with the newer
HT's that use the SMA mount.

I am very active, especially in EMCOMM. The SMA's on both my T8 and T90
have been a real problem. With the extended 6 meter portion of the
antenna attached the SMA fitting does not hold well, mechanically under
my service requirements. I have opened the T90 twice, peeling though the
layers to resolder the SMA connection to the PWB. The spanner nut is
continuously loosening.

With regard to using an adapter to a larger connector such as a BNC, I
definitely would NOT recommend that due to the increase in mechanical
strain to the SMA connector.

Before the flames regarding "abuse" commence; bear in mind that an HT is
essentially a field device and, as such, will be subject to mechanical
stresses and "abuse" beyond that of a mobile.
