[ICOM] What is wrong with SMA?

Actually, it was the FCC that mandated reverse SMA and N connectors for
802.11 devices. It was to make it hard for someone to just throw an
amplifier and/or external antenna on it. The idea was that any of these
components were supposed to be certified as a complete "system".

Now here is a REALLY tough follow-up question:
Why did the WiFi folks think it was necessary to come up with a REVERSE SMA
connector? Does anyone know the point of that?
What if someone at ICOM found out about that, and decided to get trendy and
put REVERSE SMA connectors on ICOM HTs? ;-)
Then you'd REALLY wish you had BNC!
