Hi all,
Just for a change, can't resist to share some impressions...
I've played in the RTTY Roundup last weekend with the IC-761. MMTTY in AFSK.
No extra filters, just conventional SSB ones, i.e. the bandwith was 2.8 kc
at best, perhaps even wider. MMTTY was set up for a very thin bandwith, some
180-200 Hz.
It was hard to believe, I tune to a station with a S5-S7 signal. There comes
another one, say, some 300 Hz off, with S9+20. The result is, the booming
adjucent signal looms through the speaker, I cannot hear even a presence of
a desired signal, but I get its perfect print!
Obviously kudos to MMTTY for cutting undesired signal by its DSP filter. But
still, the IC-761 provides an excellent dynamic range and linearity, it
passes the both signals with no distortion/intermods, whatsoever. Then, and
only then MMTTY does his DSP business.
What the front end!...
There was a question rised a few days ago here in the list, where the old
Icoms go. Well, it looks like they don't go, serious users keep them.
Really, could not resist, I'm just really impressed.
