There is nothing wrong with SMA connectors.  If I were going to be
snarky I might say that the fault lies with the reviewers...

SMA are a little more fragile owing to their size, but places like
Icom bolt the connector to metal inside their HT's, so that has
not been much of a problem for me.

This is the qwerty effect, mostly.  People have used BNC connections
on HT's for 30 years now, and thats what they're used to.  Back in
the days of the 0 series of HT's I discovered that I could use TNC's
on all my 02/03/04AT's and was rid of BNC's completely.  Beastly
little things...
