[ICOM] HM-118TN DTMF mic help needed

I bought the Icom HM-118TN DTMF mic to use with
my 706MKIIG but have found the mic to be high
in level with no clear way to turn it down. There is
a control inside to set the TT level but I could not
find a way to turn down the mic audio itself. The  radio
mic level is all the way down to a 3 setting which  works
great with the stock mic but to hot for the 118TN.
 Is there a known mod for this mic to adjust the  level?
