[ICOM] Opinions wanted

Gareth et al,
I have two IC-746PROs which I really love and a brand new IC-756PROIII which
is VERY COOL.
First, give consideration to either radio based on your needs.
Second, if you can afford it and you want to contest seriously or just have
a really wonderful radio, the IC-756PROIII is the choice. It is a bit
quieter and the difference in functionality and performance is quite worth
it. The only thing you lose is 144-148 MHz coverage. That can be fixed by
buying a Down East Microwave transverter.
Third, if you are not a serious contester, and just want to work a hair
harder to work the same stations, buy the IC-746PRO. You'll hear and the
stations on either radio, but fatigue may tax you as you listen through it.
The DSP filtering is about the same in either rig. One other difference is
that while the essential controls are common to both rigs, there are a few
additional controls on the IC-756PROIII that make their use easier.
Enjoy retirement and the rig of your choice!
Vy 73 es HNY!

If money isn't really an issue and u be a serious
contester, I''d go with the 756pro III or even the
7800 .... but here money is an issue (at least,
according to the XYL) so I bought the 746PRO and
haven't been disappointed yet!!

As far as last rig someone will ever buy, the problem
is that eventually almost all radios will fail and a
fallout of the IC age as these rigs age they become
obsolete and their proprietary parts are no longer
available.

A ham friend recently discovered this fact of life
when he was told by Yaesu they no longer support his
Yaesu 757 which has failed!!

73.....and Cheers to all
