Howdy.
ICOM parts = 1-425-454-7619. Listen carefully and push the right buttons.
The M.A.R.I.E site is the highest point in El Paso where high-power
equipment can operate. Marie was a fine lady, and that system was her pride
and joy. When she died 14 years ago it fell in to disrepair. Her husband
was infirm and couldn't keep it running. We bartered it away from him in
Dec of 2005, promising to overhaul his HF station and antenna, and allow him
to remain a member of the UHF repeater free for the rest of his life if he
would let us take over. We signed the agreement in March. The "Our
Mission" button shows our progress. This Saturday we will finish his HF
antenna, and we have met out part of the bargain.
There are two higher sites in El Paso. One is FAA, don't even THINK of
putting anything near that. The other is the third-highest point in Texas,
and the highest repeater in Texas. In fact, this repeater was made famous
in QST - being the first totally solar-powered repeater. Its puny 1-watt
output still covers thousands of square miles.
One note.... I had a YL come to me with that pig-tail broken on her IC-28H
mobile radio. She was un-employed and the radio was her only entertainment.
I cut it a bit shorter, put a PL-259 on it, and added a barrel connector.
It got her back on the air. Since I have lots of PLs, it didn't cost
anything to do, and it fixed it "Right Now!"
Take care sir.
