I recommend highly the Tigertronics "Signal Link" units - they have an
introduction special on one with a built-in USB sound card. This
requires no serial cable to control the radio. MixW and other
software can be set up with it and rig control can be done with a
suitable control cable from your computer.
I highly recommend this and the earlier versions as they are very r.f.
proof, have excellent performance, and with the new soundcard model,
you will have a lower noise floor - which is something you'll
appreciate when trying to get India or Singapore on RTTY - !
Don't be fooled by the difference in price, sometimes a cheaper price
doesn't translate to a lower cost. There is also the cost of
disappointment to consider, and the value of suitability to consider.
If you really want to go top notch - there are boxes such as the West
Mountain RigBlaster PRO - this seems to do everything - including
extra micrphone equalization, compression, receiver denoise, filters,
etc.
West Mountain also makes a quite inexpensive RIgBlaster Plug-n-Play - with USB.
Two things to consider - some of these units allow FSK operation with
your transceiver, some of these units allow use with two radios, some
have microphone jacks -- this allows legal use for SSTV in USA as you
have to announce in voice that you will be sending a picture.
By using the rear ACC jack, you will have the ability to run SSTV no
matter which product you buy, the the addition of other modes and
features requires closer reading. Sometimes you buy lots of
additional flexibility for few dollars.
Use www.google.com to find the units I mentioned as well as reviews by users.
