Hi John,
Maxie is now dreaming of an IC-7700 and an IC-R9500 in his "Dad's" shack,
with a multicoupler to provide that elusive "2nd receiver" function.
I agree; the review is superb. I have announced it on the R9500 group as
well.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] QST Review of IC-R9500
The ARRL web site now has an excellent review of the IC-R9500 communications
receiver. It is written by David Newkirk, who is a highly trained receiver
guru. As a result, the review is head and shoulders above any review that
has appeared in QST in recent years.
Unfortunately, due to space limitations, Newkirk touches on only a few of
the radio's many capabilities.
Newkirk left the ARRL staff some years ago. Along with Rus Healy, Newkirk in
those days gone by was about as good as it gets in technical knowledge and
no-nonsense reviewing. The fact that he is listed as an "ARRL Technnical
Adviser" gives one hope that this will not be the last such review by
Newkirk. (The IC-7700?)
Oh, yes, he says the IC-R9500 is the "best receiver I've ever used."
73,
John, W3ULS
