He is a very knowledgeable person and also will discuss such matters on the
Phone. He is the MOST Trusted person I've found for ICOM questions and
solutions.

Subject: [ICOM] Bad IC-745 (again)
A word of advice: Do not EVER presume that Heathkit antenna switch you got
at a flea market is good.
Miine, as it turned out, had been modified by a moron so that, when I hooked
it up to switch my antenna, it provided output to the antenna (from my Drake
TR-4 transceiver) as well as to my Icom 745. This means my Drake loaded into
the antenna as well as into my Icom receiver circuitry. Therefore, the Icom
is not working.
I studed the schematic and drew some conclusions, opened the Icom up, and
confirmed what I feared -- the broadcast band filter is burned up. Since the
preamp was out-of-circuit, it should be ok, and it looks ok, too. But my
broadcast band filter capacitors, ahead of the switched filters, are burned
up.
I am not so sure about the inductors, but the caps are gone, These are
called "barrier lay" and I am not familair with them.
Should I attempt replacement with my common ceramics, or should I call up
Icom. Any thoughts or experience with this?
LIkewise, can I replace the 1SS53's with a common 1N914? Thanks.
Richard
