Try disconnecting all external connections (ground, antenna,
microphone), try different power supply, plug into different power
circuit, to see if the flicker goes away. If it does, then start
adding things back one at a time to see which one causes the flicker
to return and then go from there.
If the flicker is there with the radio isolated as much as you can,
then move the radio to a different room/floor/house just long enough
to verify if the flicker is still there. Make sure there isn't a big
amp power supply sitting right next to the radio or other
emi-inducing appliances on the same electrical circuit.
By systematically isolating things within the radio's environment,
you should be able to track down the cause.
Please keep us advised of your progress.
