>From Oct 68 - Jun 70 I was stationed at Tachikawa,

home of the Pacex store. Made a few bucks shipping back

US Spec Sansui and Kenwood (not Trio) audio gear which

was in short supply and had an absurd markup. Dealt

with a shop right outside the gate and sent the stuff

back parcel post. Made several trips to Akihabara and

got a Yaesu FTDX-100 for the domestic market. Thing

worked FB but had ZERO resale value...HI!

The TEAC reference brings to mind an experience in the

Pacex stereo dept. Teac made a playback-only

Reel-to-reel device which was popular as it permitted

good copies to be made without the expense of a 2nd

recorder. Wanted one but was told they were out of

stock and would not be re-ordered because the store

"sold too many."

 Inscrutable.

Memory jog: DoKorder with the six-head bidirectional

recording feature. AKAI recorders with "glass" heads.

And those little converter boxes to allow listening

to the local FM station with a US spec FM tuner.

Also the red-white Sanyo rechargable flashlites, much

loved by the Air Commandos.

Fritos packed in a can.

Granny Goose potato chips.

REAL Kirin beer (not that *&^$ made in Canada..UGH!)

Ah, my misspent youth!

73,

Tim
