One more thing to consider is efficiency.  I believe you will find the large
coils match the 102 inch whip MUCH better than the tiny relay/coil
combination inside the tuners even if mounted as they should be right AT the
antenna.  The only way I know of to prove this would be to measure the field
strength at the same location, i.e., next to each other or on the same
radio.
