I will make this my last "swing and a miss" on this subject. When I first read Dick's post about the rig
getting confiscated I said to my self;" No chance , CB is not inforced around here" . But I now am having
second thoughts. He may get fined , etc. eventually due to his living conditions. The CB operator with the
7800 probably lives in a decent neighborhood. But one never knows Ive seen Lexus's parked in front of row
houses with tin roofs before. Im not a Government badmouther and I think that the FCC is doing a wonderful
job with Amateur radio inforcement. They are also stopping the use of long range "export" cordless phones
being used like a cell phone. The large truck stops are being fined for selling export radios and some are
being ticketed for using marine ht's at large hunting resorts. These all have one thing in common. They
are all in a location where inforcement can do there job with minumum backlash. Sort of short and sweet
and an easy 9-5. But they have been lacking 11 meter inforcement for some time. About 20 years ago there
was a group of "Freebanders" operating amateur transceivers in several parts of the country . A local 11
meter operator didnt live to far from me and he was a clean everyday hard working guy with a nice home but
he was breaking the law. One day while talking freeband to someone in Oregon he told the gent to stand by
theres someone at my door. The Oregon operator said someones here also. It was the FCC. These gents talked
everyday starting at around 9am cst and would shut it down at noon then get back on in the afternoon. Well
the agents were very nice , Looked at the equipment and told them to disconnect it and to cease using it.
They did not take anything. They wrote them out some type of ticket and the operators had to sign it.
About a month or so later a fine came in the mail for $2000.00. They then knew that it wasnt a "Free
Band". But again these guys lived in a decent neigborhood. For many years there have been thousands of
high powered cb operators that live in bad parts of town that have gang members standing on every corner.
These same operators have been on the air since the 70's worry free. They also have high powered mobile
setups. I dont think that the FCC will go into these bad neighborhoods with 11 meter inforcement. There
are two electronic shops close to those places that have signs out front asking cb'rs to stop transmitting
or reduce power because its interfering with there repairs. They have been calling the FCC for years ,
mailed in pictures of the houses and mobiles that have been interfering with them and nothing ever
happens. If the rich cb'r using the 7800 lives in a decent neighborhood he may loose that radio one day
but if he's in "The Hood" its " No worries mate" ! Sorry for being so long but I am on topic mentioning
the Icom IC-7800. I rest my case. 73 , de Randy N5WV

Darn! I was hoping I might get it as a reward for turning him in (jealous
spiteful busybody that I am. :)
