Yes.  The first two digits are a country code.
05 is usually the USA model.

I am not clear on the serial numbers where the change was made.

It is always indicated as a 4 digit number, but the serial numbers are like: 
  0201280.

Are the last 4 digits of the serial number what is being referenced?
