Hi,

I am contemplating getting a 706G, I will be making the MARS mod on it, as I am in MARS. Any issues with the radio in various parts
of the spectrum? Is it a good rig for portable use? What in general do you all think about it? Good points vs. bad points?

Thanks,
Dave

That is correct - it works fine on 60 once "opened up". And an early
comment mentioned a "couple of zero ohm resistors". For the MKIIG it's a
single diode. Easy if you have the tools and steady hands to unsolder a
fly-speck surface mount component (tiny, low-power iron, magnifying glass,
tweezers or sharp needle-nose, solder-wick). The diode is not crammed in a
crowded area of the circuit board. It's easy to find.

Anybody operating on 60 - remember to turn on the Freq Lock to avoid going
off freq by bumping the dial.
