Hi Warren,

To my knowledge, there have been very few transmitter driver (IC151)
failures in the IC-746Pro or IC-7400 since Icom applied SB920 about 3 years
ago.

All else being equal, the IC-756Pro3 receiver should outperform that of the
IC-756Pro. The IC-756Pro3 has a much superior HF/6m front end.

comparison).

The IC-746Pro/7400 adopted a TI DSP which is faster (60 vs. 50 MIPS, 17 vs.
20 nS clock cycle) than the ADI SHARC in the 756Pro series. This probably
allowed the DSP designers to squeeze in a few extra goodies such as receive
EQ. The IF filters in the 746Pro also have up to 5 dB better stopband
attenuation than those in the 756Pro2. The downside is that the 746Pro's ADC
has 8 dB less dynamic range than that of the 756Pro2 or Pro3; this will
slightly impact overall receiver performance.

The real-time spectrum scope with 1 kHz RBW, and the Dual Watch feature, are
very strong "pluses" in the 756Pro3. That said, the 746Pro is about the best
dollar value in an HF/VHF transceiver today.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ
