Hi Rick,
Okay "thanks very much" for your effort. I overlooked the trimmer pot.
repeatedly due to crummy eye sight. I will do the realignment tomorrow!
I will post your findings on all of the Icom e-lists that I'm subscribed
too.

Thomas Giella, KN4LF

Subject: 718 Speech Compressor Adjustment
I found it. It is R2220, a 220k trimmer located to the bottom right ofIC
2201 on the main board when looking at the top side of the board layout
in the service manual. How do I know for sure? I looked at the
service manuals for the 718 and the 706MK2G and they both use a single
IC for the mic. speech comp, and vox. The IC is the very same one
according to the parts lists. The compressor circuit is the exact same
except for one very small difference. The 706MK2G uses a 200K trimmer
for the comp gain and the 718 uses a 220K trimmer. Now you can adjust
to your O'scopes delight. My Halloween treat for the group. Now I'm
really pumped up about putting my "twins" back together as soon as I buy
a 718. 73, Rick. W8ZT
