Hi Tony and All: Alpha recommends that you never use a transceiver tuner to transmit through their amplifiers, and that you use either the amplifier tuner or an external tuner. This makes good sense, as depending on the external antenna impedance and its subsequent transformation by the transmission line, very high voltages can appear on the amplifier input line EVEN IF IT IS TURNED OFF AND BY-PASSED. To have the exciter tuner turned on along with the amplifier tuner is worse. This is just good sense. It isn't discussed or talked about or mentioned in most equipment manuals though. Larry K4LXV
