Mike,
No, I don't know if the various models are the same.  I think one model (the 
706?) had HF and 6 meters only.  Another model (the 706II?) added 2 meters 
and the last (706IIG) added 70cm.  Otherwise, I would not be able to tell 
any difference between them.  Good luck in programming the radio.
