[ICOM] Using IC-720a with PACTOR

Another thing to consider with the 720A is the mechanical t/r relay. I had one I tried to use with hf packet in about 1990. Signals were good, but I could only get it to work if the guy on the other end would increase his txd (transmit delay). The problem with the 720A was that it was not getting back in receive quick enough with the mechanical relay. If the guy on the other end raised his txd, that would give you more time to get back in receive mode, and would work. Problem was, most tncs that were used (Kam, Kam Plus, AEA 232 MBX, PK 900) all had the txd from the factory set at either 30 or 40 msec. And guys would not change that parameter. Usually, if they would change to just 70 or 75 msec, things would work. I bought a new low end Yaesu 840 and never never had anymore trouble after that. Hopefully your 720A and pactor work ok. I don't remember if pactor was out yet, or maybe I just didn't ever try it with the 720A. Best of luck.

MARS will change to Winlink2000.
What you need is a SCS PTCII pactor controller.
I'd recommend the PTCIIPro with Pactor 3 license.

PS: my 756ProII cannot operate pactor 1, 2 or 3 with an external keyboard
only. PActors is not the same as RTTY. www.scs-ptc.com
