[ICOM] 756 vs PRO

Hi Dan,
I have had both radios, and love my current 756PRO. The DSP filters are nice
because you can use them on both modes, instead of being limited to a single
mode with narrow filters as on the 756. Here are other nice features that
put the 756PRO above the 756:
1. Much quieter receiver. I was really surprised at how quiet the receiver
is on the 756PRO, especially on the low bands.
2. Digital voice keyer
3. More sensitive band scope, makes it much more useful
4. Manual notch filter which can be used on CW
5. Better front end, I really haven't seen the 756PRO overload yet.
I didn't say anything about the color screen because it wasn't a selling
point for me. I liked the monochrome screen on the 756 original alot, but
the screen on the 756PRO is nice. Also, I have found that the DSP noise
reduction on the 756PRO isn't any better than the NR on the 756, at least in
my opinion.
Overall, though, I think the 756PRO is a great improvement over the 756,
which is a good rig in its own right. When you figure in the cost of
cascaded filters plus a TCXO for the 756, it usually ends up being around
the same price as a 756PRO.
