I disagree. Run it and see. It is quite simple - a center loaded antenna
(Hustler) will out perform a base-loaded antenna (Screwdriver). You can
play with the efficiency of the coils a bit, but the results aren't worth
talking about.
Furthermore, because of the profile, you can run the hustler higher up on
the body without excessive wind loading. Can't do that with a screwdriver.
I have seen some real amusing gyrations with folks trying to support the
screwdrivers at highway speeds. Then again, I have seen what happened to
the ones who didn't support them.
Running the ICOM tuners (AH-3/4) broadbands it a bit, but essentially makes
it a base loaded antenna again.
There really is no one good antenna for mobile, everything is a compromise.
Good S-model Hustlers work as well as any and better than most. But then
again, anything short of a 1/4 wave is a compromise.
