Hi Guys,

The only problem I see with Hamsticks is when one cannot conveniently stop
the vehicle to change bands (for example, when driving on the German
Autobahn.) In such cases one needs a panjandrum sitting in the dickey-seat
(rumble-seat), who will obligingly change Hamsticks upon request by the
driver or wireless operator. An intercom with a noise-cancelling headset at
the antenna end is required; an alternative is a small panel with band
indicator lamps, mounted just under the boot (trunk) lip and controlled by
the radio's band-selection output.

Caution: Road traffic laws require that the panjandrum wear a safety harness
and eye protection. A long woollen scarf around his neck, fluttering in the
slipstream behind the car, will only enhance the picture! Hamstick elements
should also be tethered to the vehicle body with nylon or Dacron lanyards,
to prevent them from flying out and creating a hazard.

With a modern, solid-state radio set, the jobs of driver and wireless
operator may be safely combined.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ
