Wow!

It appears my search for information has triggered a wave of nostalgia.
After reading some of the comments regarding the quality of the radio I
guess I have been lucky to find these.

Basically I have been modifying (dirty word) these to operate on just
one repeater, the local ARES machine (I am the county EC). It makes
keeping a rig in each of my buildings affordable.

As I mentioned in a prior email to one of the subscribers: I cheat! I
have been padding the appropriate crystal with a silver mica capacitor
of between 2 and 3 pf, depending on circuit tolerances. This "torques"
the crystal frequency sufficiently so that output is within a kilocycle
-ooops - KiloHertz of the desired transmit and receive frequency. The
first one, in my machine shop has been operating for about a year with
no drift or other problems. This one "converted" in the same manner just
as easily and is heading for the woodworking shop.

Incidentally, the operators manual less schematic was located on the
Icom Japan site. It was available via several web site links, all at no
cost. Fortunately I have worked on enough early pseudo synthesized rigs
to relieve the need for a schematic. Still, it would be nice to have one.
