[ICOM] ICOM Warranty ??

Don't get me wrong here Michael. I am sure that is
what some "telephone person" told you. But
manufacturers are not supposed to play policeman!
Here is the way an original manufactures warranty is
supposed to work and BTW some state laws require it to
work: ICOM builds the equipment and puts a serial
number on it. It is warrantied for 1 Year (i think
that's right??) PERIOD.
The receipt documents when it was first purchased by
the original owner so that he gets a full year from
date of purchase. (In the ~unlikely~ event that the
unit sat on the shelf for a while.)
But what if the original owner loses the receipt?
Or sells the unit? Without a receipt, the manufacturer
is obligated for 1 year (or whatever) from the date of
manufacture.
Warranty cards don't carry any real weight. They are
simply a mechanism which allows for the *possibility*
(required -I THINK- by the Federal Trade
Commission)for a manufacturer to alert the end users
of their equipment of a safety related defect. Also
used by some manufactures as a good mailing list.
Please take the above information in the manner in
which it is intended - trying to be helpful to my Ham
buddies. Your mileage may vary. Remember: Knowledge is
power!

Tom
