I have just purchased an Icom 756PRO, which is supposed to be delivered
Thursday! Can't wait until it gets here. I have had an Icom 756 original
(756AMATEUR?) in the past and really liked it, and understand that the PRO is a big
step up.

Now here is my question, how do others find the receiver performance on the
756PRO? In the QST review, the ARRL ran their fairly meaningless 20khz
spacing receiver tests, and stated that it was not about to unseat the 781 or 775
as a top of the line competition radio. However, if you look at Rob
Sherwood's website (www.sherweng.com) where he gives the 5khz and 2khz IMD dynamic
range test (much more appropriate to contesting and DXing) its numbers look
really good-better than the FT1000D or FT1000MP series, and right up there with
almost everything else except for the Orion.

So where does the truth lie in the receiver performance of the 756PRO?

I have aprox 50 radios here. LOTS of Icoms and boatanchors.

I LOVE my PRO!
I use it mostly on 6 M and I have found NOTHING better, so far. Here in
North Florida, I have no problems with close, high powered stations. I work
primarily weak signal 6 M with the PRO. I have done A / B comparisons with my MINT
(and upgraded Drake TR-6), an Icom 575H, my 706g, and every other radio I
have that operates on 6 M, including some high $ HF receivers with 5 or 6
different brands of 6 M receive converters. The PRO heard every weak signal the
others did. I carried my 'baby' back from Tokyo when they first came out and
have loved it ever since.

My only complaint? The noise blanker is useless. The blanker in my 761 is
outstanding on the same noise.

But, the 761 and a rcv converter, still won't hear any better than my PRO on
6 M.

I would love to have a PROIII and/or a 7800 to do a side-by-side test with
my PRO, but now that I have retired, that's out of the question.

You will LOVE the PRO!!!!

I will NEVER have another radio without a bandscope. It's funny how the
die-hard TT / Yaesu fans used to put down the PRO, saying "I'll never have a TV
in my radio!". How soon they changed their tune when those brands now have a
"TV"... ha ha
