That is weird about your 706. I have plugged my digital speaker or heil headset into the front. If you separate the head from the front and look on the back there is a switch for speaker or phones and wonder if it is switched wrong>

Subject: [ICOM] Icom 706 MKIIG external speaker connection question
Hello - I have a 706 MKIIG used as a backup rig for my 756Pro III. In
general the 706 is easy to use, but I have been unable to make an external
speaker work from either the front or the rear speaker connectors. I have
tried the "Phono - Speaker" switch on the rear of the front panel in both
positions without success. The front panel connector works fine with
headphones. When I plug in an external speaker into either connector, the
internal speaker shuts off as expected. The external speaker is an Icom
SP-20 which works OK in all modes from all ports; it is used regularly with
the Pro III and a 2 meter rig. Does anyone have any idea as to why I
cannot get external speaker output with the 706?
I recently purchased the Pro III. I have a low mileage mint 756Pro II for
sale and will accept a reasonable offer if anyone is interested.
Thanks in advance,
Charles k4ywa
