The official fix for the original 706 mic distortion was to remove the
rubber grommet(?) that held the mic cartridge in the hand mic. The
unofficial and better fix was to replace the mic cartridge and grommet with
a $1.99 element from Radio Shack. I no longer have that RS part number. A
slight bit of engineering was required on the later fix.

The original 706 had a transmit audio distortion issue. I don't remember if
there was a fix for it.
