[ICOM] Icom 706 on HF

I have had my 706MKIIG for about a couple of years and use it here in the apt. I have no complaints or problems. Antennas are a G5RV and a Gap Challenger Vertical. I am not sure what "but not stellar" would mean! It is probably one of the best rigs I have ever had, if not the best. I have a MFJ 989C tuner that I use with it. I am not an engineer so I may be satisfied with my 706 when an engineer would find some minute thing that they do not like! 8-)

If you don't have an antenna tuner, you'll probably need one. That has
been my experience with my 706 Mk2G and the G5RV. Otherwise, I have
found the 706 to be adequate but not stellar in most types of use.

I will be using it mainly in the house with a decent high bands antenna, and a G5RV type antenna for the low bands. Have a CW filter ordered already for it. I will be using it mainly for DXing with some light contesting, and rag chewing.
