Paul,

When this trouble happens have you connected a dummy load and tried 
transmitting ? During the period the radio does not transmit otherwise? How 
about switching to RTTY and pressing the PTT or trying CW the results the 
same with no TX?
Switching bands, still no TX? Try another power supply with same results?

Years ago I had a similar trouble and it turned out to be faulty coaxial 
cable. The SWR was getting
higher as I transmitted until myh then IC-730 would not transmit into the 
antenna for a length of time.
Turned out to be water and corrosion in the feed line. Changing it out 
solved the problem.
