If it is an LCD display - CLEAN IT!

You remove the display from the board.  They usually have some rubber
contacts.  If they are stuck, DO NOT stretch them to remove them.  GENTLY
roll them off from the side.  Remembering how it all goes back together,
carefully swab down the contact areas on the LCD glass, and set it in the
frame.  Let it dry while you carefully swab down the rubber strips.  While
they dry, swab down the contacts on the circuit board.  When all is dry,
reassemble and test.

I just repaired the display of an IC-901A by doing this this morning.  It
was successful, so I know it works.

Of course, if it isn't an LCD display, disregard all of the above.
