Yes, I recall that when I first attempted to connect the Field to the PW-1 and I too used the 13.8v jack the PW-1 would shut down after a short period of time. And yes, it was drawing too much current from the Field's jack.
Also note that if you are going to use the Field's accessory jack for this task (or for that matter any of the Field's accessory jacks) be aware that the DIN sockets require a "non-standard" plug. The Field uses a DIN connector where the pin arc is slightly different that the typical plug you would buy. If I remember where I got mine and the part number I'll pass it along.
