[ICOM] 2006 Toyota Tacoma Radio installation suggestions ?

Eric,
I took some extreme steps to install a 706 MKIIG in a 2004 Honda Accord
and it works without a problem.
The DC wires for the radio are connected directly to the battery (fused near
the battery). At the radio end there is a low pass L - C pi filter. The
inductor
is a few hundred uH, high current 'junk box' part. The large 5,000 uF
electrolytic
capacitors are each paralleled with 0.1 and 0.01 uF. A high current diode,
in reverse,
at the filter output keeps any possibly negative spikes from reaching the
radio.
The radio body is connected to the car body with a short 1/2" braid.
The radio is mounted in the trunk. To keep it cool a small fan is turned on
when
the radio is on and cools the radio very well. This easy to do since the
accessory
connector provides 12 VDC output when the radio is on. Being the
conservative
type, the 12 V is used only to turn ON a MOSFET which in turn is used to
turn
ON the fan which is connected to the filtered DC source.
The installation is a bit complex, but it seems to work very well.
I hope this helps.

Good luck,

Mort, KB6BSN
