[ICOM] Activity question for Icom 706 radios

Yep, know that one .. my parents used to buy .. then keep .. the super thick
plastic seat covers, like on their `54 Chevy with the PREMIUM upholstery ..
or before that, their `53 hemi Dodge .. we kids slid around, or ..
conversely .. stuck to it .. depending on wx .. and, when they sold the OLD
car, the new owner had the privilege of sitting their cheapo seat butts into
a nice, new set of high value upholstery ..saved for by my non-understanding
mom and pops. My cars have always been "used" .. including a new Ferrari ..
lots of folks said "save it" . . . why do that? Drove it to SF meetings
with the NCCC, etc .. whata hey. Never put an HF rig in that one, but had
multiple VHF! All plastic removed.
However, there were some rigs that the saving of the covering worked nicely
with the factory plastic, like .. the Tempo One .. and the Fox Tangos of
that era. So .. choose your poison. I kinda vote on it, if it is a rig I
may soon part with, I leave the "protection" be .. If it is a "keeper" ... I
take the plastic off, it is M I N E !! I have never, that I can remember,
keep the plastic on any ICOM rig I intended to leave in my stable, including
all current ... like, my P2, 736, 706MKIIG, ad-infinitum ---
