I don't know what filters you have in your radio, but if you're using less
than aproximately 1.2 kHz filter, then you will hear the CW station at 1 kHz
above "zero beat" and as you continue to tune lower, you will hear it again
at 1 kHz below "zero beat". In other words, the filter is wide enough to
pass the passband of r.f. above and below the signal. With 500 Hz
filtering, this won't happen.

If you're using SSB say 2.8 kHz wide you can receive a CW signal and tune
the VFO through it (zero tone) and go out the other side and the tone will
start rising on the other side and you can produce the same audio note at
two different VFO settings. With narrower filtering this can't happen.

Added info ****

I am also noticing that I am hearing the same CW station about 1 kHz.
apart..

This morning I answered a CQ on 7038 and the station didn't answer. I then
heard him calling CQ on 7039 and I called him and he responded. Further
investigation revealed all CW signals were duplicated 1 KHz. apart.

Sounds like my rig is will probably be headed out to Scott Malcolm soon(-:

Any thoughts anyone?
