[ICOM] I.S.P. Problems

Hi Randy,

Nice to hear from you again. It has been quite a while.

There are Earthlink subscribers on all the reflectors I help moderate, and
they do not seem to have any problems receiving reflector traffic.

I wonder about those "R-9000 replacement" stories. My information is that a
solid business case cannot be made for a high-end HF receive-only box; given
the much smaller sales volume of such equipment as opposed to a transceiver,
it would need to be priced at about the same level as a transceiver covering
the same frequency range. A customer requiring receivers with the
capabilities of an IC-7800 might be best off simply purchasing IC-7800's,
especially if Icom offers special price breaks.

VHF/UHF is a somewhat different story. Icom may well have discontinued the
R-8500 for lack of sales, so it is difficult to imagine what incentive they
might have to replace it.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] I.S.P. Problems

Hello Group , Has anyone had any issues using the I.S.P. Earthlink with the
reflectors ? I may be changing I.S.P.'s in the near future and have heard
that some providers block reflector sites. Again , Anyone using Earthlink
with or without reflector problems ? Please email me off line at
n5wv at eastex.net. I have been away for several months and I hope everyone is
doing fine. My friend in Ja. says that the rx rumor mill is hot with an Icom
IC-R9000L replacement based on the IC-7800 like the 9000 matched the 781
series. Icom is in need of a table top vhf/uhf receiver to replace the now
discontinued IC-R8500.I have never purchased a "software" controlled rx but
I may try the new IC-R1500 that will replace the IC-R1000. 73 de Randy ,N5WV
