FW: [ICOM] 756 Pro II filter selection

Hi Mike,
I would bet a threepenny-bit that your friend had his Dual Watch on.
In Split operation, you will always be receiving on Main and transmitting on
Sub. As long as you ensure that Main is active (highlighted) when you are
not changing your transmit frequency, a filter change will take effect on
Main. I can see your point concerning the extra button-push, but would not
hold a lot of hope for a design change unless a significant number of
customers request it.
I usually activate Dual Watch when operating split, for example transmitting
on 14143 and listening on 14186 (up here in Canada, of course.) This enables
me to monitor my transmitting frequency, and ensures that filter changes
will always take effect on Main, even if Sub is highlighted. The only
disadvantage is a 3 dB rise in idle-channel noise. This can be reduced by
offsetting the BAL control.
(The Pro3 works the same as the Pro2 in this area.)
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Thanks, Ken, Adam and Earl -
I asked because a friend with a Pro II says his changes both. Maybe he had
dual-watch on.
If I'm working split, I'm more likely to be changing the XMIT VFO as I look
for his listening freq and I don't give a hoot what the filter is on that
VFO. It's extra button pushing that could be avoided with a minor change.
A wish for the Pro IV then (assuming the Pro III works like the Pro II).
Change filter for the receiving VFO, or change both without regard to
dual-watch.
