746pro Mike Follow up.

Hi Willy
Tks for pointing me in the right direction. Looked at the mike cord
connector that goes to the front panel. Wires were OK. Had to drill the head
off one screw on the connector collar. Would not come off with correct Allen
head screw driver.
Open mike shell up and found no wires out of place. Gave the mike a
sharp rap and it sounded like a baby rattler. The brass nut inside the case
that is used to hold the mike hanger had come loose and had been wedged some
where under the circuit board. Removed circuit board and put brass nut in
its compartment and fasten mike holder. Assembled mike and plugged into
radio's front panel. Hum is gone. In my opinion the brass nut should be
staked or sealed in its compartment so that it can't come out in case the
hanger screw backs out. A drop of locktite (spl) will work also.
This may be a one of a kind but I would suggest all to check the hand
mike hanger screw for tightness on all Icom radios.
Happy Holidays

Hi Willy
That makes sense, I'll run over to Fred's in the morning and take a look.
Also, I'll take my mike off the 756pro and try that. Should have done that
today. Good old hind sight.

I've got the same problem with my 746PRO. It is the mic connector on the
radio. Check to see if the connector is loose or has been loose and has
broken a
wire on the inside of the connector , which has a little circuit board on it

When I dis-connected the collar from touching the radio part of the
connector, everything is great !! The problem is the radio mic connector.
