Please - if you want it to keep working - DO NOT use WD-40.

When will the lubrication property myth of this stuff end? 

WD stands for Water Displacement.  It IS NOT a lubricant.

Before you really gum up your radio - spray some WD-40 in a screwdriver.
Put it on good and thick.  Then let it set up for a few weeks.  See whet you
get then the propellant dissipates.

WD-40 will work, but you need to re-apply it every few days.  Somehow it
seems to me you are looking for a bit more longevity here.
