[ICOM] TS-2000 vs. IC-910

I will have to say that Kenwood does seem to have the
best reliability ratings of the big 3 in recent
models-both for getting it right out of the box, and
for longer term reliablility. Unfortuately both Icom
and Yaesu have had models which had problems from the
start-910H, 746PRO, FT100, FT857, etc. Many of these
were fixed in later production runs, but I would much
rather have the radio work right from the beginning.
I good rule of thumb for Icoms is to get a rig with a
serial number over 2000.

And there were several models with longer term
issues-756 and 746 come to mind, and about any Icom
model that ends in a 1-where you have to replace the
trimmer caps, etc.

The only recent Kenwood that had problems (that I am
aware of) were the very first 570D rigs to be
released, where the Lithum battery would die after a
couple of months. Kenwood quickly fixed this. You
have to go back to the TS440 before that to find a
Kenwood rig with consistent problems.
