Hello Dan and all,
Obviously something wrong in the temp. switching circuit.
If the fan is OK, I would try the mod which enables the fan to run
continuously. It can be found on the internet somewhere. I have
performed this mod on my 706Mk2G and it keeps the rig much cooler on
standby and the fan hardly ever switches on to high speed like it used
to for TX.
Although this does not solve the original problem of the fan not
operating according to the required temperature switching, it could be
all that is needed to keeps yours happy. The mod involves powering the
fan from another voltage source within the radio via a dropping
resistor. If the value of the resistor is varied so is the speed of the
fan. You therefore may find a good level of fan speed continuously.
This is just a suggestion if the temp. switching is difficult to
troubleshoot.
