I like the pryme RD-8 and RD-98 antenna's.
They are a quarter wave on 2m so they have
some length to them but they survive. I use these
for public service events, general purpose, used in
the Big Thicket for the Columbia recovery operation.
They can survive crawling through the thicket
several Ham-Comm years, texas summers,etc.
I also have the RD9sma for my HTX245 which is fine
for close in stuff.
I have another short dual band that I think is a comet
that seems to work pretty well. I'll pack that as a standby
in case I lose or damage on of the pryme's. It's about 8 - 9
inches long.

>Does anyone on the list have a recommendation for a good aftermarket HT antenna to use. I have an Icom T81A and am looking for a good performing 2/440 antenna for it. I am not interested in anything longer than 10 inches or so due to practical considerations. I am looking for 1 antenna around 5-8 inches for regular use, and a second "mini antenna" around 1-2 inches for close in work, which I need to minimize the size of the HT and antenna package. Here are some antennas I am looking at:
>
>Full sized
>Comet SMA503, SMA3, SMA703 (with 1.2G)
>Diamond SHR519
>Maldol MH-511 with 6 meters
>MFJ 1713S, 1716S
>Pryme RD9SMA

>Mini antennas
>Comet SMA501
>Diamond SRH805 with 1.2g
>Maldol AS-25
>Pryme RD2SMA
>MFJ 1719S
