Having read too many postings on the subject I cannot resist. Forgive
me.
Do you suppose that the reason for such differing modulation readings
[100% sine, 30% speech]
could be due to the fact that we are comparing Apples and Oranges?
Lets call the sine wave case Apples, and the Speechwave case Oranges.
Now Apples possess CONSTANT amplitude, frequency, and power over the time
of measurement.
But Oranges are complex mixtures of frequencies and amplitudes!
For linear output the amplitude of The AF component must not exceed the
RF carrier amplitude.
Look at a speech wave on your oscilloscope. It is not a steady state
signal.
Apples are great for testing purposes. Oranges are the real AM/SSB
communication stuff .
QED? All done without complex math or differential equations.
