Hello all,
I have recently come into possession of an old IC-22S transceiver - was
given to me HI HI. The person who passed it on to me is not a ham and has
never even powered it up.
At present, it doesn't appear to be alive. The green RX led comes on and
the red led lights if you activate the PTT but that's about all. Little
noise from the speaker on receive and the squelch does not mute the rig.
So, I know that many of you might be thinking "Why bother with this old
****"
I wanted to repair it and use it on local repeaters just as a ragchew rig -
something that can be left on all the time etc. Upon looking into the
radio, it appears to have a yellow wire that comes from underneath the diode
board cut - no indication of where it used to go.
There also looks to have been a transistor or something removed from the
back panel as there is just a hole left with the remains of a bit of white
heatsink goo.
Any of you fine chaps can give me some suggestions of common mods that were
done on this model or even if these couple of descriptions can indicate what
may have happened?
I know it's old and probably not worth messing around with but I like the
challenge of getting old units like these working again and if I can get it
to work, I do have a use for it.
If anyone has experience with these older rigs I would be interested in
hearing from you. I don't have a service manual for it either - but can
download the operation manual.
Thanks and any assistance or information would be gratefully received.
Best regards,
Des - VK3DMP.
