Paul,
If it s 706MKIIG look at Page 44 of the instruction manual. You want 
to do the Selected Memory Scan. This scan will allow you to select 
the memory channels you desire to scan.
Looks to me you go to memory mode and be in the S2 menu. Dial up the 
memory channel you want to include in the scan list and momentarily 
press the F2 button to select it. There should be a small S appear 
next to the memory channel. You need to do at least two memory 
channels for that select memory scan to work.
Once you have a few channels programmed press F! to start the scan 
then F2 to change to Select scan.

Also remember to look at Page 43 Squelch condition. In any case the 
max time it will stop for is about 10 seconds on a busy channel 
depending on the scan resume setting.
